Teochew Poit Ip Huay Kuan

The Teochew Poit Ip Huay Kuan is a Teochew Clan association in Singapore where Poit Ip refers to the eight districts in the Teochew dialects in the province of Guangdong, China.

It was established in 1929 by several prominent Teochew community leaders which included Mr Lim Nee Soon, Mr Yeo Chan Boon, Mr Huang Wei Ting and Mr Lee Wee Nam. Known as established Teochew entrepreneurs who were recognised for their resilience, hard-work, honesty and sincerity, the promotion of these Teochew values and culture naturally became one of the core missions in the Huay Kuan.

Founding of the Local and International Affairs Committee

With a growing members base, the Huay Kuan started to see Teochew leaders stepping forward to strengthen the Huay Kuan’s standing in the community. As a result, the International Affairs Committee was founded in 2013 to bring Teochews together on an international scale. The committee was re-branded to Local and International Affairs Committee in 2015 to better reflect its work of promoting the Teochew culture both locally and internationally.

Since then, the team has stood unwavering in fulfilling its vision and mission, with the Award as one of its key initiatives
